Installing Backup Exec 9.1 on a system running SQL Server 2000

NOTE: IndustrialSQL/”InSQL” install in this case.

  1. Always install Backup Exec so that it interfaces with the local SQL Server, and NEVER let it install the MSDE version it uses when doing a stand-alone installation. This applies to systems that have SQL Server installed on them. Backup Exec will create its own instance for use on the SQL Server.
  2. The Backup Exec MSDE software will destroy the local SQL Server installation otherwise. This is contradictory to articles on the Veritas support site.
