Microsoft WSUS Missing Computers

You are running the new WSUS patching system from Microsoft, and you know you have the current Automatic Updates client installed on all your systems, and yet many systems are not showing up in the WSUS administration console. What to do?

Steps to Resolution:
(Based on research from various tech support forums and web sites, this is what I have found works.)

  1. Delete the following registry entries from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate:
    • AccountDomainSid
    • PingID
    • SusClientId
  2. Note that not all entries were present on all the systems that I had with the problem. But at least one of them always was.
  3. Run the following command: Wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow
  4. Restart the system.
  5. Wait a bit and check your WSUS administration console again.

This worked every time for me, and I had roughly 5-7 systems that should have been showing up that weren’t before executing this fix.
